Here is my restored stock 1951 3/4 ton Huckster. This bed configuration was an optional bed from '37 to the late '50's from GMC. It was sold as a solid oak bed with a galvanized tin lining and full canvas over hoops the same height as the cab roof. It was intended to be used as a vegetable hauler for farmers to sell their vegetables at a market.
This truck was purchased new in May '51 by George Newell of Hanson Mass. who ordered many options including; Radio, Fresh Air Heater, Fire Extinguisher, Unity Fog Lights, Signal Stat (rear only) directionals, Unity Spotlight, 4 speed, 5.14:1 rear gears, trailer hitch, and oil filter. It was purchased to haul garbage and move trailers around the trailer park where it lived. It was retired on the property with 20,364 original miles until it was pulle dout of the barn in 1990 and a complete restoration was started. In 1994 the restoration was completed. This truck has been featured in "This Old Truck" and "Pickups and Panels In Print" as well as Hemmings Motor News. It is a fine example of what barn fresh really means and I believe that all 20,000 miles were done in 1st gear!
